Car bomb attack in Phillipines

The attack occurred on the outskirts of the city of Lamitan and was adjudged by the separatist jihadist group Abu Sayyaf, close to the Islamic State.
At least ten people, including soldiers and civilians, were killed on Tuesday when a bomb exploded at an army checkpoint in the southern Philippines, military authorities said.
At least one soldier, five militants and four civilians were killed in the explosion outside Lamitan, a city whose population is predominantly Christian, but which is located on the island (province) of Basilan, mostly Muslim.
The driver of the bomb car, alleged member of the separatist jihadist group Abu Sayyaf, which operates mostly in the south of the country, also died.

He also noted that government forces have remained on alert after receiving reports that extremists planned to blow up explosives throughout the island.
