World Cup: Most important and viewed sports tournament

It is almost time for another World Cup to begin in Russia, but despite the content and main attraction that makes it exciting, i think that historically this tournament has become the most important for an specific sport worldwide. It is incredible how this Cup can stop the whole world and become the center of attention for a whole month in most of the countries around the world. I hope this year´s edition will be as intense and thrilling as the last one in 2014.

  1. I think that the world cup is great event not only for world sports, but for peace. When the national team plays a match, the whole country stops and everyone forget their differences for only one reason, support the national team.

  2. I think the world cup works as an instance where everyone can reunite as brothers no matter your nation nor race. Football as a sport has shown to bring people together, for example during world war 1, when soldiers stopped fitghing and for of two days had a period of peace, in which the played football and had a great time together.

  3. Without as doubt the World Cup is the single most watched sport event out there. Its great to get a chance to see teams from different parts of the world battle it out on the pitch. Fifa also uses the World Cup to spread messages against racism, child abuse, etc. But sometimes football is not the central part of the event, In my opinion publicity has taken over and shifted our vision from what really matters, football.

  4. Sports definitely join countries and people together. It is the sheer thrill of seeing your country being represented internationaly what brings pride and excitement to everyone. Even though there have been some contradictions to this years world cup, for example with the fact that it happens right in the middle of Ramadan, it still has a very positive effect worldwide. Im sad to not see Chile play, but that wont stop me from watching the matches and rooting for other countries!!
