Piñera criticizes Trump’s immigration policy

Chilean President Sebastian Piñera joined the tide of criticism this week from Latin American nations over U.S. family separation policy at the Mexico and U.S. border.
“No immigration policy should stop taking care, welcoming and protecting children. This is a universal principal, a principal that more than anything reflects values,” said Piñera while inaugurating a nursery and kindergarden for Chilean and foreign children in Santiago on World Refugee Day.
Regional countries continued to react to U.S. President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy, which has led to the unprecedented step of taking children as young as four away from their parents and keeping them in separate detention facilities.

  1. Donald Trump’s policy in my opinion is very rough and extreme. Inmigrants should be considered as a chance to open our eyes to what we are not used to. They can brings us new traditions, new food, employees and a total new culture. They are not bad for the country, they are a possibility of change, for good changes. This is what Donald Trump is not seeing. We must accept all people as an oportunity and not as an obstacle.

  2. I also agree that Donald Trump uses a very rough way to take control over people who arrive at the US by separating children from their parents. Kids of this ages are strongly close to their parents, and separating them causes severe damage to them and their health. This should not be the way to make effective the control of who enters the country or not.

  3. In my opinion Donald Trump’s policy doesn’t have a bad intention behind but it is aplied badly. Children should not suffer for their parents choices wich is entering the United States ilegally, the majority of them do it because they are desperate and want to escape their home country that is currently in a bad position (politically and/or economically), a great example of this are venezuelan inmigrants. Also another important point is that the current places where children from inmigrants are being held are in very poor health conditions and that is unacceptable. In conclution doing a check on ilegal inmigrants is not bad, the thing is on HOW you do it and try to harm the less people posible.

  4. I think the policy imposed by trump towards inmigration is a hipocresy, due to the fact that the united states itself used to be a colony, a country created by people looking for opportunities and a better quality of life. Now Trump is not letting inmigrants enter the united states, and by doing so taking away people chances of achieving a better quality of life.
